Even though everyone loves to attend these special parties very few people understand what proper baby shower etiquette should be followed. If you’ve been wondering if there is a specific guideline of rules to follow for baby showers then your questions will be answered. Just read this article which we have put together for you with the most common baby shower etiquette tips.
Hosting Etiquette
The most overlooked aspect of baby shower etiquette is who is the most appropriate person to host the shower. Since baby showers are typically hosted by a close friend or family member of the mother-to-be it is generally a volunteer friend or relative who will offer to host the shower. It is incredibly poor etiquette to put pressure on someone to hold the baby shower if they are not particularly comfortable hosting the event for whatever reasons.
To prevent committing a baby shower etiquette faux pas it is recommended that you wait a while to see if anyone volunteers on their own to organize and host a shower. If no one does offer to host the baby shower then the subject could be raised at a gathering and it is highly likely someone will put up their hand. Of course, if no one does, you can always volunteer to throw the shower yourself. By asking someone who may not have the time or resources to throw a shower it is considered extremely bad baby shower etiquette.
Many have also asked if it considered proper baby shower etiquette for the expectant mother to organize or host her own shower. If there are no family members or friends able to do it then we see nothing wrong with the mum-to-be throwing a party to celebrate the arrival of her new child. However, a word of warning if you have loads of friends and family, one who may want to throw you a shower then it is considered to be in bad taste to usurp their authority and throw your own shower.
Gifting Etiquette
Once a baby shower has been planned it is a good idea to let the expectant mother know the details so that she will have time to register for the things she needs. If the mother has not registered for any particular baby gifts it is considered proper baby shower etiquette to ask her if there is a list of things that she would like.
Don’t forget that unless the mum to be has specifically asked that no one bring gifts it is considered bad baby shower etiquette to attend a baby shower without a gift.
